Our first chapter: What are the chivalric virtues?

Hi everyone. In the first chapter of our podcast, The Everyday Knight, we will discuss the chivalric or knightly virtues. We will draw upon many traditional lists of virtues, as we seek to develop a list for exploration and discussion of each virtue in subsequent chapters.

Chapter 1, Part 1 of 3

Please join us, and let us know what you think about the virtues, and how you apply them to your everyday life! Parts 2 and 3 are below.

  1. I think you have to accept that by Christian standards, historically speaking, lust is a vice. I think the sinfulness in lust is in the false priority one give to lust, when one should value other things at a more appropriate level.

    1. Thanks for posting Steve. I agree that the historical view of lust is as a vice, which is by that definition prioritized over other things of value.

I hope we have taken a more nuanced view of the modern understanding of lust, or desire, as a human quality, while keeping in mind that balance is essential. The definition of the modern term “sex addiction” as “a range of behaviors that are done in excess and significantly impact one’s life in a negative way,” seems to refer to the historical view of lust that you provided.

  2. Thanks, Briar! I appreciate your comment and your suggestions! I hope that we have been clear in our statements that we consider the Everyday Knight approach as available to everyone.
